China Camp

The China Camp restaurant has been around for ages, but I've never been there. I've always wanted to go because the hot pink neon around the place is so very enticing. Anyone been to the China Camp or the Fat City Steakhouse that is next door?

Never been to China Camp, but we used to hang out at the Fat City bar occasionally -- especially after meeting people at SAN (fastest gate-to-bar time if you eliminate airport bars). It's pretty good.

I've only been to China Camp once;but I've been to the Denny's many times--it is in another part of the building. Just north of the Dennys is an office, and in the second story window, an owl on a perch (I've never seen it move!).
I think it was a Topsy's before the Fat family took on the project.

We used to go there ever so often back in the 80s - before the Denny's was there. It was a hangout for navy recruits looking for girls, fun and loud. It was everything you would expect from a place with a neon sign and a name like that. :)

It used to be Tops. Then it morphed into a Japanese eatery....classy place. After that Tom Fat attempted two resturaunts before he gave up and added a Dennys's. China Camp has delightful decoration that sits just rotting because it will cost too much to fix, and some middle of the range Chinese American food. The steak house serves some excellent meats that we have always enjoyed.

Tom Fat was a wonderful host, and it is a great loss to have both he and his wife die within a year of each other.
