Matilija poppies
It is my birthday, so I'm going to post something pretty! These are Matilija poppies which are native to California. Their papery thin white petals and the yellow center give it the nickname of the "fried egg" flower. The ones shown here were on a bush that was probably over 10 feet tall.

Happy birthday, dear Felicia, and thank you for posting pictures of my beloved San Diego.
We have a tree that grows in south Florida called the fried egg tree. It's a small tree from Africa. The proper name is Oncoba spinosa and is sometimes called Snuff-box Tree or Fried Egg Tree.
Happy Birthday !
The matilijas are beautiful. I've always admired them, but haven't got out of my own way to get them into the landscape at the dry end of the house. The only things expanding over there are two kinds of jade plant, and several palms. (Why does anyone buy palm trees ?, (they grow like weeds on my property.)
