Clean Rooms, Lo Rates

Along El Cajon Blvd. is located many privately-owned motels, as well as a few of the national chains. The chains don't interest me. It's those privately-owned motels which fascinate me. With names such as La Cresta, La Petite Rouge, and Morgan's, they practically scream hourly rates, and a dark, seedy underbelly that I know nothing about. "I saw your mom on El Cajon Blvd. last night!" was a common tease when I was a kid. The only suitable reply to that was, "oh yea? And what were you doing there?"

Years ago, El Cajon Blvd. was a known location for hookers, but that trade died down once they installed median strips (of all things!). Possible buyers could no longer flip U-turns willy-nilly once seeing 'merchandise' they were interested in. Strange, but it worked!

Yes, those definitely look like hourly places. I still see prostitutes on El Cajon Blvd between Texas & 30th but there are a lot less nowdays both in this area and downtown!

Remember staying at Morgan's. We had painted the house and could no longer take the fumes. This was befor El Cajon became "Hookers

Louis Haven"
