Botanicals #2

Again, I don't know what kind of tree this is, but they do have beautiful leaves. The catch is that at this time of year they drop these little balls (seed pods?) or aka doo doo balls in my house and make a nice little mess.

I thought they were sweetgums, or "liquidambar" trees? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquidambar_styraciflua

Aren't they some sort of maple? We had these in my yard growing up and those balls hurt. Especially when you have older brothers who think it's fun to throw them at you :(

Definitely not maple (seeds look like butterflies) or sycamore (leaves turn brown, bark is peely). I think anonymous is right that it is a gum or liquidamber
