Aqua cycle
File this under: things you would only do if you were on vacation. Locals would only be caught dead on this fun alternative to paddle boats near the Hilton on Mission Bay. :) I'm just kidding, but this is the exact kind of thing that San Diegans never do, even though or because it is here all the time. San Diegans: post a comment and tell me what touristy San Diego things that you've never done/visited before and I'll try to post a photo of it.

Lots of people I know who lived in New York City all their lives never when to the Empire State Building or saw the Statue of Liberty up close. I think what you are talking about is really quite common.
San Diego used to be a Navy town and the place was geared to things Navy but by now I suspect it has changed a lot. The weather was nice too.
This San Diegan has lived here for 5 years and never been to Sea World or Mission Bay. Love Point Loma/Cabrillo Monument and the Wild Animal Park, however. When I lived in Northern California I seldom visited the touristy things in San Francisco -- never been to Alcatraz, for example. And was horrified when I figured out I'd never taken my children to Yosemite because it is too crowded :-)
despite living here (off & on) since 1991, i've still never been to the wild animal park, the flower fields, or the new olympic training center. i'd also like to see the uss midway and drive up to death valley sometime....
It took me 10 years of living in San Francisco to get to Alcatraz(it was worth it for the boat ride, and the view looking back at the city), I now live about a mile from Waikiki, and couldn't find my way around if you paid me, which is quite embarrassing when people visit!
When I come home to San Diego, I am compelled to do "touristy" things that I had never cared to do when I lived there. I truly only appreciated La Jolla Shores many years after I left SD. I have never been to The Start of India, nor have I been to the new baseball park.

Hee hee, nope never did that!
I wish I could say I've never been to the over-priced hellhole that is Sea World. However, I confess that in the days when we had press credentials we did go to a couple of junkets there. At least it was free!!
You know what it's like. Parisians never go to the Louvre museum! I'll be the perfect tourist, I think I wouldn't mind trying out one of those...
I loved yesterday's fountain. Very nice. I drink tap water but I have a filter. The French are the first consumers worldwide of bottled water and I think it's a disgrace. So much waste!
We get a lot of visitors, so I've done just about all of the touristy things.
But I've never been to Legoland. Honestly, I don't want to go but I am curious.
Also, I've never done the harbor tour/whale watching thing. Taken the ferry to Coronado though, if that counts.
