Sifting Through the Ashes
These people are sifting through the ashes of what was once the man wearing blue's home. His wife couldn't bear coming up to do this, but they wanted to make sure to come up as soon as possible so that they could get anything that might have survived the fire. They didn't find much - a plate or two, and an angel figurine.

I can't imagine having to sift through my stuff with a shovel. Thanks for posting and sharing these photos. Best wishes to this family and others that have lost their home.
What complete devastation! My heart goes out to them...
I remember going to some relatives houses a couple months after Katrina and wondering why they didn't put more effort into cleaning up their yard. THen Hurricane Rita hit us and I found out how overwhelming it is. I am sure there are a lot of heavy emotions around there.

One has to be in awe of the resiliency of humans in the face of such devastation because you know so many will be able to face this, after a time of healing, and go forth with their lives--much like those repeatedly hit with hurricanes and blizzards and such. I am amazed and proud of them. I pray for them, too.
I'm so sorry for all the people and the animals, too, that suffer from those terrible fires. I can't imagine how it must be to lose house and home :-( (I found your blog in my statistics.)
This is devasting news for those in the area, we can't even imagine what a wild fire looks like in the UK!

Hello,
It reminds me what happens in Greece the end of august about the wood fires, or in Portugal some years ago.I can't imagine forests can burn easily even in California.
This is just so sad.
But I am happy that they evacuated and are alive.
