Grave Site - Old Town

There is a grave yard in Old Town - many people know that. But what is far less known is that just outside the grave yard, under the sidewalk are a few more graves. At one point the ground was x-rayed and they placed these small markers on the pavement above those layed to rest.

It isn't known who they were or when it happened that the grave yard's walls were moved.

there's even some in the street, under the asphalt. pretty disrespectful to the dead i'd say, but perhaps they don't mind...?

Nice photo Alex. I never noticed those markers. With this photo and knowing about Pioneer Park, doesn't it make you wonder where else we are walking over graves in San Diego?! P.S. I sent you an email about Nov 1 theme day.

I'm glad you posted the information about this. . .I had no idea. The last time we were in SD (3 years ago), we stayed at a hotel in Old Town and went to Pioneer Park and all. . ..I just didn't have a clue. Next time I come out, I'll have to look for these.

This is so interesting! I have been to Old Town in San Diego twice and never realized this. I will take notice next time and totally impress my husband when I show him.
