Humidity
It has been hot and humid here this weekend - from 80-100 F and 60% or more humidity - that is a lot of moisture for us. Here's a photo from my backyard a few nights ago. I was trying to catch some lightening but just caught these clouds.

Stunning photo! I am glad it is not a fire (which I was suspecting).
Global warming must have affected your weather too - San Diego was always known for perfect climate (not too hot, no humidity).
