Johnson House
The Johnson House is among several historic buildings in Old Town that are open for tours. The house was built around 1869 by George Alonzo Johnson who was a steamboat operator and later became a California State Assemblyman. Today it is a little store that sells hats, gloves, canes, and like the sign says "finery". Do you remember the days when men and women didn't leave home without a hat?
I often wish San Diego was a "hat-wearing city". I often lament that. I love hats - the funkier the better. But my inventory of funky hats gets dusty livin' here. ;-)
Brent, I think you're thinking of the long underwear that is a few doors down at the general store. But maybe The Johnson House sells bloomers! Thanks Wendy - it caught my eye too. Alexandra, sounds like you are a candidate for joining the Red Hat Society when you're 50!
