Chicken Pie Shop

Look for this painted red chicken electrical box outside the Chicken Pie Shop on El Cajon Blvd. Inside there are hundreds of ceramic, plastic, feathered, and wooden chickens that line the walls of the place. They have been in San Diego since the 1930's and still serve the same fare: good cheap comfort food. Pie dinners include a chicken pie, whipped potatoes, gravy, vegetables, cole slaw, a roll and dessert for $6.50. They also have chicken giblets or livers for the adventurous eaters. Click here to see a review and food photos.

OMG - CPS! Love the place. Did you know that the original location was in Hillcrest, where now sits Starbucks, Jamba Juice, and at least one or two of the restaurants next to them on the block (it was a biiiig place)? We went there often when I was a kid. :) A tradition I'm proudly continuing now with my family. We also ALWAYS had a few pies in the freezer.

Alex beat me to it; I was going to write about the original location too. Still the best deal in town -- I was there a few days ago.
