Bird Brain

It'd be nice to report that this is a crow's nest, but the stupid bird that built this contraption in the Quivira yacht basin is more likely a heron. Storks are famous for building huge nests on the highest place they can find -- in Europe, usually the church steeple. However, the stork is very uncommon here in S. Calif. Funny, that -- we seem to have babies, all the same.
Photo and story from Expat (Stu)...and check out these stork photos from Kris of Szentes, Hungary.

I am sorry to inform you that birds are not stupid, crows are less stupid than many other birds

Don't be sorry -- I already know about the instincts of birds. You have to try and see past all that to conclude that it's stupid to build a nest on top of a pole that might lean over at an angle of 45deg at any time -- not to mention go off to Hawaii without notice!

Several decades ago I was the driver of a utility truck with storage racks of pipe (to hold measure sticks, etc,), when a sparrow built a nest in the end of a pipe it had to be removed; I took it home to my cat in a fast-food sack.

After a second visit, I now understand that this is an osprey's nest, and there are 2 young 'uns in there.

Well, how wonderful - twins! I thought about this "stupid" bird comment and I think the human that bought this boat for thousands of dollars to have it sit in its slip and have a bird build a nest on its mast is, well, stupid!
