Power lines

I took this photo while I was sitting in traffic on the 52 freeway. The freeway cuts through a mountain area with Mission Trails Regional Park on one side and the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar on the other side. This photo looks toward the park. Does anyone know what these colored balls on the power lines are for?

Beautiful photo!
I believe those balls are placed on powerlines to alert pilots.

Does the hair stand up on your arms when you are under the power lines? The hairs stands up on my arms so we make a point of not living near one. Sort of scary when power lines run through a neighborhood and kids play under them all day long.

Around here they use balls and also a V shaped piece on power lines to keep the lines from flopping around in high winds. Your clouds are nice and the sky is clearly blue. I like the picture you took.

I was going to guess airplanes too.
Like AL I wouldn't willingly spend any more time than strictly necessary under these.

I believe as others believe that the balls are to alert pilots or flying humans =) I like the clouds in this and now they just need to bury the power lines =)
