Food for the New Year
Chinese New Year is this Sunday so I thought I'd show a local Chinese restaurant. To be honest, I haven't found a favorite Chinese food place here in San Diego. I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area where there are lots of inexpensive delicious Chinese food places. I haven't tried the Emerald Chinese restaurant that Stu mentioned, but I heard that it is one of the best in San Diego. Any suggestions?

It's very nice of you to mention Chinese New Year! Happy New Year to you! :)
Yea, I think Emerald Chinese Restaurant is pretty good, at least the dim sum is, you should go try!
The other one that my boyfriend took me to has this yummy crab rice... I forgot the name though. I could find out for you if you're interested!

It has the most extensive descriptions you will find. If you want Shanghainese or Szechuan or whatever. Kitk is from Hawaii, but his wife was born in China.
I like the entry door of this restaurant. Colorful.
Enjoy your weekend Felicia!
Hi Felicia, first I have to tell you Emerald is actully quite good, though it may not compare with the best in SF but it's definitely better than some of the old Chinatown ones in SF. Secondly it's close to midnight here in Shanghai and entering CNY officially soon, the fireworks and firecrakers have been non stop since this afternoon, I feel like in a war zone in a movie, lots of explosions and noise outside. If we don't count HK this is my first CHINESE new year :)
Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Thank you all for stopping by!! Looks like Emerald gets a thumbs up. Thanks Cathy, I've seen mmm-yoso's reviews before and they are great and boy do they like to eat! Stu, Jasmine Express has my name on it. Happy Year of the Boar to everyone! Strangely, the big CNY parade in San Diego will happen next weekend and I plan to be there with my camera.
My wife and I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in San Diego, so it's nice to see the suggestions here. And Felicia, although a lot of people have photographed the Pekin Cafe, yours and mine are the only shots I've seen that include the "Food to go" sign, which I think makes the place more interesting.
Don't forget China Max a little further north up Convoy (across from the Honda dealership), or Ba Ren, Clairemont Mesa & Diane (west of 805). There's actually a fair amount of decent restaurants right next to 805 & Clairemont Mesa -- we like Di Chan, Pho Tu Do, Buga when we're not in the mood for Chinese ...
