The Visitors

This all started with a problem we were having with our cat Jiminy. Jiminy started peeing and pooping inside our house (not in the litter box), so we decided to put him outdoors. Since he has been outdoors, we noticed that we need to buy cat food a lot more often then before. In the last few nights three raccoon visitors stopped by with their mom for a bite to eat. Any suggestions for critter control or getting cats to not pee and poop inside the house?

Cute little devils, aren't they? No advice except, be careful that the raccoons don't get into your house; happened to a friend and LOADS of damage!!

Racoons! I have to say that they're an important part of my impression of San Diego. I saw a family of five racoons seeking for food right outside a dorm on UCSD campus! It's the first time I've ever seen real racoons.

As for critter control... all I know is from the movie "Over the Hedge"... I am not sure if those fancy device really exist. But I do agree with Kate that you should make sure the racoon don't get into your house. I've heard terrible stories about that...

As for the cat, maybe you could seek help from a vet? My kitties also pee or poop outside the litter box once in a while, but it's not been a huge problem.

ahhhhhh they're so adorable - I was just about to say forget the cat and adopt these guys as indoor pets but I guess having read Kate's comment, best you not let those devlish critters anywhere inside or you will be dealing with more than just poopie pappy.

I wonder if you can get that dog whisperer guy that works with dogs to help you with the cat?

Felicia, this is such a great capture, it seems like all of them are looking into the camera, LOL...geez, I have no pet and don't know cats at all, or else I hope I can help, but poor Jiminy...

Funny suggestion by Kala as well.

I have heard that if you douse the area with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water it helps to make the smell go away. I hope it works!

I found this cute comment at the above website that says going potty is an emotional issue. I hope you can get rid of the raccoons soon!

Are they neutered yet?
I heard that helps.
Love the shot, but at the same time would never go near them as much as you dared!

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. Kate, a friend of mine had some raccoons enter her house through the cat door and they dragged a wet sock everywhere and ate all the cat food. Fay, thanks for stopping by. LOL about Over the Hedge! The pooping & peeing problem was daily...I wonder if pet hypnosis works? Kala & Lisi, let me know if you know a "cat whisperer"! Stu, Jiminy just sits back and watches them eat! Candice & Megan, thanks for the advice about the vinegar mixture - cat pee has a horrible smell! It is possible that Jiminy has been "angry" since the birth of our daughter a year ago-that is a lot of anger. And Dutchie, yes Jiminy is neutered. I've read a little bit about a pheromone called Feliway that calms cats...if anyone has ever tried it please let me know!
