Casa Beach/Children's Pool
This beach was originally intended as a protected swimming area for kids, but in the last 10 years or so seals have been coming here to swim and sunbathe and they have become a tourist attraction. In 1997, the beach was closed to swimmers because of high levels of animal waste (seal poop). The beach was reopened to swimmers in 2004 because people complained of not having access to the beach, and still today swimming is not advised because of the high levels of bacteria. There is a wonderful seawall (on the right of the photo) that was built to shelter the beach and also for people to walk out on to enjoy the view.

I've seen these seals. And I wouldn't go swimming there.
again i have to say beautiful beach, it's a shame it can't be used for swimming.
colors are so summery and today is officially the last day of this summer =(
its like dangling candy in front of a kid and then telling the kid its not edible - or seeing the apple on the tree and a sign says its forbidden to eat - what a beautiful beach with clear blue waters, its too bad its not advisable to swim =(
I've been here and it was so beautiful to watch the seals swim and lay in the sun. I could sit there all day and watch those adorable animals. Now, instead of a beach, the kids of LaJolla get a free zoo attraction! I think it's a great place to take kids but with a new purpose--to see native animals of their area! I can't believe people would talk of destroying the animals! That is no lesson to teach our children! I think it is much more meaningful to show them how humans and animals can share the planet!
OKAY, humans are not the only species on the planet!!! there are 70 MILES of beach to swim at in san diego. The seals chose a fraction of a mile to haul-out and to raise their you and people see the need to swim there! That is REDICULOUS.
