I do miss prickly pears in bloom! Lovely shot.
Very interesting looking cactus. San Diego is such a cool place!
Very impressive when enlarged.
The colours are excellent. I wonder if animals eat them or is it in a populated place?
This reminds me of the mountains on Catalina. Speaking of which...I'm sure a venture out there would still be considered "San Diego" wouldn't it? We don't have to tell anyone it's not! Loving your photos!
wow - isnt the flowering of a cactus a rare site?
This is actually the first time I have seen a cactus flower!! Very pretty!
This is a lovely photo.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Eric - I bet animals might try to eat but the thorns are pretty tough. Actually, people eat this cactus. Called nopales or nopalitos in Spanish - remove the thorns and skin and make a salad! Micheal - I've never been to Catalina but will have to make the trip. I think the Catalina Islands are in Aliso Viejo Daily Photo territory. Heard it is beautiful.Adam & Midnitebara - These flowering cactus are very common around here and grow on the hillsides. Glad I could share it with you.
P.S.: On further research, the Catalina Islands are in Los Angeles County!
what a splendid image :)
