The big T

Have I ever mentioned how much I love thrift stores? It's a cycle - I give them my donations, then I shop there, then I give them my donations.... I like the Disabled American Veteran's/Veteran's Thrift Store out on Elkelton Blvd off of Jamacha Road in Spring Valley. (Click here for a nice round up of thrift stores in the county.) I heard there used to a carpet store in this space, and a grocery store before that...Anyone know what the deal is with this big T?

The building was originally a Thrifty's drug store.

It used to be a Thrifty. Yes.

That one isn't half the fun as the Amvets right up the hill. That Amvet's is G's favorite, but I like the El Cajon one. Yesterday I bought new Jones dress black denims for four bucks at the Amvet's off washington. We are spoiled. Try the Discovery shop too. They are "upscale" but fun.

My memory from having grown up a few blocks from this place is that it was a ThriftyMart grocery store. I remember walking there with my little brother to pick things up for my mom. I'm talking late 60's here... oops. dated myself.

The Thrifty drug store was on the other side of Sweetwater Road and a bit south, where the Rite-Aid is now.
